What Is Ecotherapy?
Linda Buzzell and Craig Chalquist describe ecotherapy as,“An umbrella term for nature based methods of physical and psychological healing that addresses the critical fact that people are intimately connected with, embedded in, and inseparable from the rest of nature.” Modern life has created multiple barriers preventing humans from truly connecting with nature. Experiencing ecotherapy can help you find and strengthen your relationship with nature, which in turn can help improve your mental, emotional and physical well-being.
Ecotherapy is also more then just using nature as a resource. It’s more of developing a reciprocal connection with nature. A way to start is taking time to pause and notice your natural surroundings before starting a hike. I often will take time to ground myself and say inside my body, “Living creatures and spirits present, I offer my gratitude and presence. May I please walk amongst you this morning?” And I offer a similar verse of gratitude as I finish my hike and leave the park. For me, this creates a deeper connection on many levels of mind, body and spirit.

Ecotherapy Offerings
Individual Sessions
Our time together will be spent in nature (a local green space in Nashville) where we may hike, sit, walk, practice mindfulness or incorporate writing and nature art activities. Focus will be on taking time to slow down, take notice of natural surroundings and find presence with nature companions. I also offer sessions in-office. Yes, you can do ecotherapy indoors.
Individual sessions are 60 minutes in duration with a rate of $105.
If you are interested please schedule a free 20 minute consultation, so I can learn more about your hopes and needs. We can talk through any questions you may have about what an ecotherapy session may look like.
Group Sessions
These will be offered twice a month in a Nashville park. Each small gathering we will come together as a group for a nature connecting activity spending time with nature and sharing our experiences afterwards. These will last roughly 1.5 hours.
Registration is required and a fee of $20.
